School keeps being delayed for good reasons..of course. So, my essays and such are being delayed. :) I love reading blogs. Raising Homemakers is one of my favorite. I loved this one she had on there the other day...thought I'd share. Enjoy! :)
The Fruit of Her Hands
“Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.”
-Proverbs 31:31
Is there anything so delightful as receiving a gift that is handmade? Before there were store bought socks, there were those that Grandma made, before there were store bought quilts, there were ladies that had painstakingly stitched every quilt square for that special someone’s wedding. Times have changed, but there is still nothing so dear as a lovely homemade treasure. Whether it is a freshly baked pie out of the oven, a handmade quilt, or even a hand stitched pillow case, nothing can compare with the tender love and care that goes into a special gift made with your own hands.
“She looks for wool and flax And works with her hands in delight.” -Proverbs 31:13
“…So train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.” -Titus 2:4-5
The Bible speaks of women working with their hands, so it must be of importance and it must render something inspiring to the feminine being….don’t you think?
Manufactured goods can never replace a special gift that is made by a beloved mother, sister or aunt, who has lovingly made it with her own hands. When Laura receives a treasured gift, it will be twice as dear if grandma made it. Special heirlooms might include a handmade cookbook, quilt, garment, apron, recipes, hand written letters, words of wisdom, garden tips, cleaning tips… which can all be passed down to future generations who will treasure them, Lord willing, for years to come.
These lost arts can all be learned. For those of you who are eager to learn some of these skills, you might seek out a noble woman in your church or community who could be a mentor to you. For those of you who are skilled in some of these arts, I would encourage you to look for teaching opportunities. I have fond memories of my first knitting lesson with an elderly godly lady from our church who graciously taught me the basics of knitting, over a hot cup of tea. These Titus 2 moments will forever be engraved in my heart.
So what is that special treasure that can be made with your own hands and offered to your dear family in love? May we be remembered as women who loved Christ, served others, and worked willingly with our hands.
